Located close to Grenoble city center, the Stade des Alpes was inaugurated in February 2008. With a capacity of 20,068, the stadium is mainly used to host matches for Grenoble's soccer (Grenoble Foot 38) and rugby (FC Grenoble Rugby) teams. It has also hosted five matches of the 2019 Women's Football World Cup, as well as the Winter Game, an exceptional ice hockey match between Grenoble's Brûleurs de Loups and Briançon. The stadium's design is based on an "English-style" morphology, which favors proximity between players and spectators: the distance between the front row and the touchline is just 8 meters.
